It is impossible to even contemplate a project like our new Heritage Centre without the generous support of you - our donors, and we do hope you will continue to support and assist, and persuade your friends and family to donate too.  Please sign up for our newsletter so that you can track what your donations are doing for us.

Grants

Community Trust South Major Grant
April 2015 a grant of $300,000 was approved by Community Trust  South towards our new heritage centre. We are so grateful to them for taking that first step of faith as a major funder and giving Rakiura Heritage Centre Trust such a boost.

Stewart Island Ratepayer Appeal
2016 mail appeal to residents and ratepayers of Stewart Island saw a steady trickle of funds come in which is very encouraging. To date $25,000 has been donated through this appeal. It is heartening to get local support for our project.

Ministry for Arts, Culture & Heritage
In a ceremony held at Stewart Island on 21st July 2017, the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Honourable Maggie Barry announced an amazing $1,088,595 towards the Rakiura Heritage Centre which will enable building to commence as soon as a building contractor has been engaged and building consents approved.

Stout Trust
July 2019 we received a grant of $20,000 to go towards exhibition fit out.

Gift from Sheila Natusch Estate
In June 2019 we received a generous grant of $60,000 from the Trustees of Sheila Natusch’s estate. This has come at a just the right time as we move on to setting up the exhibition gallery in the new museum. Sheila has always been an ardent supporter of Rakiura Museum contributing both financially and with many items to our collection over the years. Books she has written line the shelves of our research library and form an important part of our collection.

Gladys (Bid) Hopkins’ Family Donation

An amazing $90,000 was recently received from the family of the late Bid Hopkins which will go towards exhibition set up. It is heartening to receive such generous gifts from long time Island families like Bid and Sheila.

However, before we secured one cent of your donations, we had the incredibly generous support of Brendon Ford and his team at Provoke Solutions and in partnership with Kentico - they have generously donated hours of time and expertise to our web site and those technological features that allow you to follow us on Facebook, and to safely make your own contribution.  Everyone on the Rakiura Heritage & Information Centre working committee wish to acknowledge this and thank them all sincerely for their valuable input.
Similarly, we are indebted to Opus Architecture and to that talented team headed by Julian O'Sullivan.  They have not only designed our beautiful building to our very exacting specifications, but have been very generous about the manner in which they have achieved results to date.
We are determined that the maximum number of dollars possible in our funds be spent on the actual building of this wonderful asset - it is due to our wonderful sponsors and their donated time that we can do as well as we are doing so far.  If you are aware of any other corporate sponsors, please encourage them to contact us too - we are only too happy to spread the word about such generosity given with such high levels of expertise.
